As a draughtsman, I have a new found respect for painters. While we are in the constant struggle to find that perfect 'divine line', you guys are on a quest to find the cosmic 'colour combo'. I had this profound revelation after the Renaissance Art-history class and the Pastel painting class that I am taking. It was difference between Titian and Michelangelo.
A painter's 'drawing' is very loose, he brings it all together will his use of colour, while for a draftsman everything is about the line and form, colour plays a secondary part.
I found out after the trying out the theory in my pastel class. One is supposed to use pastels almost like painting with oils, no hard lines and you develop forms with colours...silly me, I started putting lines like I was drawing a comic page. Results are evident in my gallery.
That is my take on it, since I try to make very tight drawings and maybe the reason I such have a hard time 'painting'. You painters have guts, I'll give you that. I would have a stroke if I worked like you guys.
Oh, but we are still better than you guys !
